Appointment of Professor Badran Badran as Dean for the Faculty of Media and Public Relations

Liwa College is honored to welcome the distinguished Professor Badran Badran as the newest addition to our academic community. With an illustrious career spanning decades in the field of media, Professor Badran brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise to our institution as he assumes the role of Dean of the Faculty of Media. His commitment to advancing media education and his outstanding contributions to the field make him a highly esteemed figure, and we are excited to embark on this journey of academic excellence under his leadership.

Prof. Badran’s academic journey has been one of excellence. He received his graduate degrees from the USA, getting his MA from Indiana University’s School of Journalism followed by a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. in Communication. Prior to his tenure at Liwa College, Prof. Badran served at Zayed University as the Assistant Provost, the Executive Assistant to the Vice President, the Acting Director of the Community Relations Department, the Associate and Assistant Dean in the College of Communication and Media Sciences, and the College Accreditation Coordinator. Prior to that, he served as the Chair of the Mass Communication Department at the United Arab Emirates University.

Prof. Badran’s research interests cover many areas within the disciplines of Mass Communication, Journalism, and Tourism. He has over 50 scholarly publications and regional conference participations in disciplines such as strategic communication, public relations, health and environmental communication, tourism promotion, communication and cultural policy, and others at the national, regional, and international levels. He is also a member of the editorial boards of several international academic journals.

Prof. Badran co-authored ‘Dubai Outbound Tourism: An Exploratory Study of Emiratis and Expatriates’ which was published by the Journal of Vacation Marketing. He also co-authored a chapter entitled ‘Sharing the Transformation: Public Relations and the UAE Come of Age,’ which was published in The Global Public Relations Handbook: Theory, Research, and Practice. In 2019, he authored a book chapter published by Routledge, entitled ‘A Critical Snapshot of the Practice of Public Relations in the United Arab Emirates’ in the book Public Relations in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries. His latest research investigates visual storytelling using historical photographs. In 2021, he published an article about ‘Kuwait’s History Told Through Photographs’ in the Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication.

Prof. Badran is a certified program and institutional reviewer by the UAE Ministry of Education’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) and has served as an external academic reviewer for several universities in the Arab Gulf region.
