About the Program

The Bachelor of Health Management program will prepare you for a leadership role in healthcare administration and management. It will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex healthcare landscape, drive organizational success, and contribute to improving healthcare delivery and outcomes. During the Bachelor in Health Management program, you will develop a solid foundation in health systems, business principles, health policy, and leadership. You will also gain a deep understanding of healthcare management’s unique challenges and opportunities, including financial management, quality improvement, strategic planning, and healthcare regulations.

Major areas of study in the Bachelor of Health Management program include:

  • Healthcare Administration: Learn about the structure and organization of healthcare systems, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and public health organizations. Develop skills in health care operations management, resource allocation, and healthcare governance.
  • Healthcare Financial Management: Gain knowledge of healthcare financial, budgeting, and reimbursement systems. Learn to analyze financial reports, manage healthcare costs, and understand the impact of healthcare policy on financial sustainability.

  • Educate future health services professionals in the primary administrative, analytic, behavioral, and social/cultural competencies necessary to work effectively in diverse and dynamic health services and community-based organizations
  • Merge knowledge from different sciences and disciplines, such as humanities and management theory, as a basis for problem-solving and healthcare decision-making. Demonstrate a willingness to work cohesively and communicate interpersonally with interdisciplinary healthcare team members
  • Enable students with associate degrees from diverse backgrounds, such as health management, nursing, and paramedical technicians, to obtain an advanced degree
  • Provide a workforce for hospitals, clinics, health departments, medical insurance companies, and managed care companies
  • Enable fast integration into the workforce at a senior level through the combination of management skills, information technology awareness, and clinical knowledge

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify major health care systems and their characteristics to be able to apply and manage them in a health care environment
  • Describe Healthcare Process Management (HPM) in process-centric healthcare organizations to be able to respond to industry developments, reduce the risk of human error, and improve patient care
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the basic skills needed for managing a healthcare organization, including implementing new policies, creating a budget, creating a work schedule, managing interpersonal conflicts, creating a disaster plan, conducting performance evaluations for staff, hiring and firing of staff, communicating with staff, and facilitating meetings
  • Formulate responses to problems in the management of a healthcare organizations or delivery of care using legal and ethical principles
  • Employ current information technology and health information systems to manage, maintain, and retrieve health care-related data/information
  • Support skills in leadership, motivation, and team building in health management settings
  • Analyze and interpret health care data to make decisions that incorporate sustainability
  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills that build cooperative working relationships in the health care profession
  • Develop and review an argument drawing upon proper evidence, literature, and theories
  • Present concepts through oral and written communication skills in English or visually through illustrative and technical rendering
